A bus driver involved in a fatal crash in which a 57-year-old died is unlikely to be charged.

UPDATE: A BUS driver involved in a fatal crash in which a 57-year-old died is unlikely to be charged.

The 57-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed on the Stuart Highway near a bus stop at The Narrows at 5.30pm on Monday.

On Wednesday, a Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said a report into the incident would be prepared for the coroners.

She said no charges are expected to be laid in relation to the crash.

It is understood the bus company, Buslink, worked closely with police as part of the investigation.

Following the 57-year-old woman’s death, residents turned to social media to highlight safety concerns about the highway bus stop.

The Narrows bus shelters for the number 5 and 8 bus routes are on opposite sides of the 70km/h zone on the multi-lane Stuart Highway.

UPDATE: THE TERRITORY’S top cop said an investigation was continuing into the death of a 57-year-old woman in Darwin.

Police and emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a bus near a bus shelter at The Narrows at 5.30pm, Monday.

The 57-year-old woman was found deceased on the road.

The driver of the bus stopped immediately.

Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker said police were still trying to determine what occurred in the lead up to the fatal crash.

Mr Chalker said it was too early to tell if charges would be laid.

“We’ve still got to review quite a lot, (there’s) things to work out,” Mr Chalker said.

“The exact caution is not very apparent.”

It is understood the bus company, Buslink, were working closely with police as part of the investigation.

The fresh tragedy on Northern Territory roads has raised concerns about safety measures around the Stuart Highway bus stop.

The 57-year-old female was found deceased on the road.

Police established road diversions to facilitate a crime scene pending arrival of investigators.

Detectives from Crime Division, including Major Crash detectives, attended to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Those hoping to get to their stop have to cross four lanes of traffic in the 70km/h zone, with only a pedestrian island to help them cross.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said police were appealing for witnesses, particularly motorists with dashcam footage who travelled along Stuart Hwy through The Narrows between 5pm and 5.30pm.

This latest crash brings the Territory’s fatal road toll to 30, with five more lives lost compared to the same time last year.
