Despite having the yips in front of goal PINT pushed their way past a struggling Palmerston outfit to claim a much-needed victory.
Neither PINT nor the Magpies have had the start to the seasons they would have wanted, and a win at Cazalys Arena was a necessity to keep hope of finals on the table.
The Greenants managed that, but made it difficult for themselves with points becoming the flavour of the day instead of major in their 8.19 (67) to 3.6 (24) win.
PINT were the side with all the attacking energy early on and were quick to dominate the contest with their bigger bodies.
The second quarter was one of the stranger of the season where PINT dominated out of the middle with all the run and carry, only to balk when it came to scoring goals.
Cameron Wilson, Thomas Schott and Riley Mayne were among those getting plenty of the ball out to their forwards, but when it came down to their forwards nothing went right.
A string of 11 behinds and no goals for the quarter did not paint the picture of a side that realistically should have put the game to bed by then.
To make matters worse in one of Palmerston’s only two inside 50s of the period Hunter Lewis scored from an angle on the siren for half time marking his side were still, somehow, in the contest.
Shaun Wilson turned it up through the middle while Ryan Warfe was typically busy for the Magpies, but they found the Greenants defence a hard one to crack.
PINT, however, rediscovered the centre of the posts late in the third quarter when Luke Moore struck through to snap what at that stage was 15 behinds in a row.
Cameron Wilson continued to get plenty of possessions alongside Elliott Chalmers as the midfield gritted it out inspired through the late stage as they got proper reward for effort.
Chris Nield was their most reliable man up forward with four to his name, while Adam Jorgensen was pretty busy himself whether in front of the sticks or on the supply train.
“We’ve had a few close calls that have hurt so for us it was good to get one ticked off again,” Wilson said.
“In that second quarter we put the pressure on ourselves a bit and made the little mistakes as a result.
“We came in and addressed it and composed ourselves with the message of taking our chances and not letting the pressure get the better of us.
“Our midfield was strong and works well, we all come from different places and while we may not all be up here for a long time we’re focused on making it worthwhile so we’ve all brought in and gelled.
“For me I’ve always thought about coming up here and with Mark Whiley coaching, who I played with in Yarrawonga it was a case of if I don’t do it now I never will, and it’s been great.”

PREVIEW
If Palmerston and PINT are going to turn around what can only be described as a disappointing opening nine rounds of the NTFL season, then a win here is a necessity.
The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of this clash from 6.30pm on Saturday.
PINT have lost six of their last seven games, but only the defeat to St Mary’s should be seen as one where they were never in the contest.
Recent setbacks to Wanderers (four points), Nightcliff (nine points) and leaders Southern Districts (10 points) show they are definitely up for the fight.
The Greenants come into this fixture fresh off a bye and the break will have allowed them to fine-tune some things for the second half of the season.
Thomas Schott and Connor McDonald have been among their standouts in the middle. They just need to turn the player mix into a winning formula.
Palmerston started the season with more promise than the last one. A hefty Round 3 defeat of Darwin Buffaloes indicated they may be on the road back.
But injuries and consecutive heavy losses have taken a toll, though there are still chances to pick up wins this season, including in this one.
Watch the full replay at the end of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
