PINT’s undefeated run has survived another major scare as they worked their way back from a half time deficit to see off the Nightcliff Tigers.
The Tigers led by 13 points at half time, but they came to a halt from then on the scoring front and were made to watch as the reigning premiers found their way back into contention.
The Queenants surged working off the efforts of two-time best and fairest winner Jasmyn Hewett to win 9.5 (59) to 6.6 (42).
Amy Chittick was instrumental in front of the sticks getting three while Paige Sheppard had a big day out herself as the side pulled ahead.
For Nightcliff’s part Gabrielle Deller and Sally Evans were constant sources of go-forward, but they were unable to hold their momentum all the way as PINT worked their way to the win.
Score:
Nightcliff: 2.3 5.4 5.4 6.6 (42)
PINT: 1.1 3.3 6.5 9.5 (59)
PREVIEW
Third-placed Nightcliff will be out to take advantage of any weaknesses undefeated PINT may reveal on the back of an unusually shaky run since the NTFL Christmas break.
The NT News and KommunityTV will live stream every moment of the Women’s Premier League clash from 5.30pm on Saturday.
It comes after the Queenants narrowly saw off a fourth-quarter surge from the Darwin Buffaloes last week, surviving to win 6.4 (40) to 6.3 (39).
Paige Sheppard has been a standout for PINT in the past two weeks getting in her side’s top players in both matches, while Stella Ajani and Zhoe Clarke also stood out.
They will however be waiting on the return of goal scorer Steph Lawrence, who without they have struggled for consistency in front of the sticks.
The Tigers meanwhile will want to return to form themselves after suffering a heavy defeat to St Mary’s in their return to the NTFL last round.
It means they’re now sitting in third, but still with a chance of knocking the reigning premiers down a peg if their star performers turn up for the occasion.
Zimra Hussain was strong in her first outing for the side while Kate Martin and Tsinta Kendall also had big games in light of a standout showing from the Saints.
Watch the full replay at the end of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
