Nightcliff Tigers walked out of DXC Arena with four points to its name after defeating PINT in a well fought affair.
Under a blood moon the visitors played a fast, high press brand of footy that was too much for the Greenants to handle.
A late flurry of goals for PINT wasn’t enough as the Tigers finished the contest the right side of a 8.14 (62) to 8.5 (53) scoreline.
From the fist bounce both sides were up for the contest as each club fought tooth and nail in what was a scrappy first 20.
PINT got on the board first via Jett Trotter, with Ben Brett doubling the home side’s lead four minutes later.
The Tigers clawed back with two quick goals of their own courtesy of Brett Kennedy and Marly McGregor.
PINT did a great job keeping the Tigers from adding to their tally, but both teams fell foul of poor decision making with a multitude of turnovers going against the two.
Nightcliff made PINT suffer as veterans Brodie Filo and Ryan Nyhuis shored up the back.
Benjamin Brett turned the game on its head, kicking three of his four majors in the fourth, taking the Greenants within striking distance.
The late comeback wasn’t enough however as Nightcliff went back to what worked and struck late to seal the narrow win on the hooter.
Back in the pride for his first match of the season, captain Ryan Nyhuis didn’t miss a beat. However the captain was unhappy with his teams’ performance as a whole, but was understandably happy with the victory.
“Seriously I think we got pretty lucky in the end,” he said.
“Our skills weren’t quite up to scratch tonight but fortunately for us theirs (PINT) weren’t exactly great either.
“We burnt the footy and our entries weren’t great if I’m being honest.
“If, once we can clean that up, we’re a pretty new group and there’s a bunch of guys I’m yet to really play with actually, after a bit of turnover from last year. But I’m confident that we’ll continue to build as the season comes.
“On the positive side, I believe that win gives us a bit of clear air and breathing room now, but we definitely have a lot to improve if we are serious about what we want to achieve this season.”

PREVIEW
PINT may not quite have squared off the results they would have liked but are always a competitive force when they‘re on their home track.
The Greenants return to DXC Arena for only the second time this season to host the Tigers in a tough tussle on the edge of the top five.
The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of this clash from 6.30pm on Saturday.
The Tigers will be hyper aware they are enterring enemy territory, and if they aren’t, they will soon be reminded of the fact by the vocal PINT faithful.
The Tigers have struggled for ascendency in the early stages of recent matches, but have been a force to be reckoned with in second halves of games proving their match fitness.
They will need to be fit against a PINT side that tend to stick it out in games, and with the likes of Brodie Filo around getting plenty of possessions Nightcliff will fancy their chances.
The Greenants almost pulled off one of the comebacks of the season in their last home match in a supreme second-half effort against the Crocs a fortnight ago.
A win here is necessary for PINT to keep pace with the sides ahead of them on the table and that too will push the side on to get one over last year’s grand finalists.
Watch the full replay at the end of the game.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
