TERRITORY kids will be some of the first in the nation to receive their Covid-19 jabs, as the government expands its vaccine rollout.

Any child aged 12 or over living in the NT will now be eligible to book their Pfizer appointment, except for those in Darwin.

Children in Darwin aged 12-15 are currently eligible for the vaccine if they have a medical condition that increases the risk of severe COVID-19 infection or if they are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

Bookings are already available in Greater Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs, while vaccine bookings will be available for children living in Tennant Creek from Monday, August 23.

Children in Nhulunbuy will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine via pop-up clinics.

Territorians aged 12-15 living in remote communities will be able to access the vaccine as part of the Territory remote rollout.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles said the government was considering a range of options for the administration of the vaccines including a school rollout.

“We know the Delta strain of the virus is more infectious than every previous variant and we need to take every step to ensure we are keeping Territorians safe,” she said.

“The vaccine is available, free and effective and I want to encourage every Territorian to get vaccinated so we can reach the other side of this pandemic.”

More than 182,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses have now been administered in the Northern Territory.
