Northern Territory passes 80 per cent double-dose vaccinated

Chief Minister Michael Gunner has revealed the Territory has surpassed a key vaccination milestone, but far later than his original 50-day time frame.

THE Northern Territory surpassed the 80 per cent double-vaccinated milestone on Thursday.

The benchmark was hit according to NT Health’s own data, which is a separate tally from the federal government’s vaccination count.

On Thursday, the Commonwealth said the Territory stood at 68.2 per cent double dosed, tracking roughly in line with Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia.

The 80 per cent milestone according to NT Health was hit just over a week after Chief Minister Michael Gunner’s target of November 4.

Mr Gunner had previously said 80 per cent benchmark would be bring about “freedoms”.

On Thursday evening, Mr Gunner took to his social media channels to reveal the Territory had hit 81 per cent double dosed.

94 per cent of Territorians have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

He had previously said the NT was on track to become one of the most vaccinated jurisdictions in the world.

A vaccination mandate on all workers who interact with vulnerable members of the public comes into force from Saturday.
