The chance of a tropical low forming into a cyclone off the Territory coast in The Gulf of Carpentaria, following a monsoon surge that moved through Indonesia and into northern Australian waters, has decreased.
The Bureau of Meteorology says there is only a low risk of it reaching cyclone intensity from Saturday through Wednesday.
However the BOM said if the system formed it would likely to track generally south or southwest through The Gulf of Carpentaria early next week.
It said by mid-next week, the system would likely weaken as it interacts with land, and the chance of it being a tropical cyclone would drop to very low.
Another low off the Queensland coast which has been of concern is expected to bring gale-force winds and heavy, locally intense rain around Cairns and nearby areas.
Of the five lows the BOM has been keeping a watch on across the Top End of Australia, the most likely to form into a cyclone is well to the northwest of WA.
The BOM says there is an increasing risk of it developing into a tropical cyclone over the weekend over open waters
It is expected to move to the west southwest and develop with a moderate risk of being a tropical cyclone from Sunday.
It is forecast to move over open waters and not directly affect coastal or island communities.
