NEW signage could be going up soon outside Wellcamp Airport and the surrounding business park, after Wagner Corporation put forward an application to the Toowoomba Regional Council.

Plans were submitted to the council last week for a large sign to be erected at the entrance of the massive site off Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd in Wellcamp.

The sign, stylised with the current branding format of the airport and business park, would replace a straight-forward billboard currently on-site.

"Currently, the subject site has two stacked shipping containers which act as an advertising device for the airport and ancillary business park," the planning report said.

"The proposed sign will be more appropriate, attractive and well-integrated into the landscape than its predecessor.

"The land surrounding the Wellcamp Business Park is predominately used for rural purposes whilst the land situated to the east features Boral Quarry.

"It may be concluded that the ground sign aligns with the purpose of the advertising devices code which is to facilitate the advertising of businesses while ensuring acceptable levels of safety and visual amenity."

The council has yet to respond to the planning report.
