The head of Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium Tom Kimball is set to call full-time in the top job.
Mr Kimball plans to move to Melbourne to be with family and pursue the next chapter in his career at the end of this year’s rugby league season.
Since taking on the job in 2020, Mr Kimball and the team at QCBS have overseen record-breaking events such as the first regional State of Origin in 2021, the NRL All Stars in 2021 and 2024, and two P!nk concerts.
Mr Kimball said he was extremely proud of the events the stadium has facilitated.
“I’m incredibly proud of what my team has been able to achieve in the last few years, from putting on State of Origin with eight days’ notice, to record crowds two nights in a row for P!nk to the incredible relationships we’ve built with Jeff Reibel and the consummate professionals at the Cowboys,” he said.
“The stadium is full of fond memories and I’ll miss the team, the welcoming community, the walks along the strand and the buzz of game day, so it’s a really bittersweet feeling to make the call to move back interstate.”
“It’s an exciting time to join the venue, with plenty on the horizon, so I encourage anyone with a background in events who loves sport and is passionate about building relationships and a strong community to apply.”
North Queensland Cowboys chief executive Jeff Reibel said Townsville and the greater region are ‘going from strength to strength’ and that he was hopeful the next Venue General Manager can continue that momentum.
“I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to Tom for his dedication to the Cowboys and the North Queensland region over this time, we’ve had a wonderful partnership which will be sorely missed.” he said.
A recruitment process will soon begin and applicants are encouraged to apply via the Stadiums Queensland website.
