Lotto: Tips and tricks that could win you millions

Exclusive: A year of on-off Covid lockdowns hasn’t stopped Victoria from taking out the top spot for the largest Lotto wins for a sixth year in a row.

The tally included the nation’s biggest individual win when a North Melbourne dad took out a $80 million Powerball win.

The man had been working as a cleaner to make ends after losing his job during one of the city’s lockdowns when he landed the incredible prize.

New data from The Lott and Lotterywest has revealed where the nation’s luckiest Lotto hot spots and postcodes are, including the suburbs in each state and territory where the most division one winning entries are sold.

The data, taken within a 11-month period until November 30, covers all games including Powerball, Oz Lotto, Tattslotto, Set for Life and Lotto.

Victoria finished 2021 on a high, taking out the top spot for the most major prizes and division one money won, with 131 division one winning entries that scored more than $358 million in prize money.

NSW and the ACT can still boast the most lottery millionaires – with 97 millionaires created from life-changing division one wins in 2021. Queensland came second, with 79 lottery fans gaining millionaire status in 2021.

In Victoria, the postcodes of 3028 for Altona Meadows, 3429 for Sunbury, and 3004 for Melbourne each sold three division one winning entries.

In NSW, Port Macquarie (2444) continued last year’s lucky streak, with four division one wins totalling $4.2 million.

Wentworth Point/Sydney Olympic Park (2127) racked up $5.8 million in prize money with three division one wins while Penrith/South Penrith (2750) had three division one wins totalling $3.9 million.

The year's impressive national tally included the Northern Territory’s biggest division one win when an Oz Lotto ticket sold in Humpty Doo (postcode 0836) resulted in a whopping $35 million jackpot.

In Queensland, the postcode of 4817 for Kirwan/Thuringowa sold four division one winning entries totalling $66.8 million. Three division one entries totalling $52.4 million were sold in Mackay (4740), while Gladstone (4680) sold three division one tickets totalling $2.9 million.

The biggest division one individual prize win in Queensland was $60 million, which one lucky player landed after buying a Powerball ticket at Nextra Willows News in Thuringowa Central (4817).

South Australia racked up 37 division one wins, totalling $50.6 million and 29 millionaires were created.

The postcode with the most division one winning entries was Kilkenny (5009), which had two wins totalling $4.5 million.

In Tasmania, the postcodes of 7310 for Devonport and 7320 for Burnie each sold two division one winning entries.

Burnie’s two winning entries resulted in prizes worth $3.6 million, with the biggest individual prize totalling $2.5 million and Devonport’s two division one prizes totalled $3.1 million.

Ahead of Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw on New Year’s Eve, The Lott spokeswoman Lauren Cooney said the lottery wins had brought much-needed joy and excitement after a challenging year.

“While we haven’t had winners jetsetting overseas like they usually would, this year has been all about sharing division one wins with friends and family, upgrading the home and planning for special reunions with families,” Ms Cooney said.

Ms Cooney said Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw could cement or contradict the country’s 2021 lottery hotspots.

“The annual Lotto Megadraw is famous being a millionaire-maker, and this year’s $40 million

jackpot is the biggest prize the Megadraw has ever offered,” she said.
