Winners at a prestigious architecture award have been announced with projects across the Darling Downs commended for innovative designs.
Bunya Mountains property Bunya House was awarded the William Hodgen Award for House of the Year at the 2023 Darling Downs and West Moreton Regional Architecture Awards.
The contemporary property which the homeowners use as a retreat also received an award for the Regional Commendation in the Residential Architecture Houses (new) category.
Designed by Noosa’s Sparks Architects, Bunya House was described by the judging panel as “a perfect blend of comfort, practicality and sustainability”.
“The attention to detail, refined simplicity, and carefully framed views mark this home for well-deserved design recognition,” the panel said.
“It is clear that the home delights its owners and delivers a joyful living experience.”
Further afield in the Lockyer Valley, Joe Adsett Architects’ Cliffhanger House was recognised in the Residential Architecture Houses (new) category, as well as Maranoa’s Bigger Big Rig which won the Public Architecture award.
Warwick East State School took out the People’s Choice Award and received a commendation in the Heritage Architecture category.
Hosted by the Australian Institute of Architects, the awards ceremony took place on Friday night to showcase the most stunning architecture and innovative designs across the region.
All commended projects will progress as finalists to the state awards in June.
