ACTIVITY is about to ramp up at the former Defiance Flour Mill site after the developer secured approval for stage one of its transformative project.
The first stage of the Toowoomba Mills Precinct project, delivered by developer Richard Adams Homes, will feature a food and shopping precinct located in the old sawtooth buildings at the far north of the site and the Ruthven Street buildings on the northern side of Campbell Street.
Toowoomba Regional Council approved the application on Friday after a short, six-week assessment process.
Building work will include both internal and external renovation to bring in a fresh look, while maintaining clear references to the original use of the site.
Two large spaces in the precinct have already been tenanted and interest in the smaller tenancies is increasing.
Developer Mandy Adams said they were now welcoming interest from retail, cafe, restaurant and business operators who may want to secure a space in the site.
"There are small areas with great character available right now, and a huge warehouse space too, that can be converted to smaller spaces or used as one whole retail store," Mrs Adams said early in October.
"While the area is just taking off it's a great opportunity to get into the precinct because very shortly it will be a most sought-after position connecting the city with the Railway Parklands."
Richard Adams Homes has been contacted for comment.
