A Toowoomba woman has released a memoir about her journey battling breast cancer and through her book launch was able to raise $15,000 for charity.
Stacy Nottle released Breastless on Saturday, February 14 and to celebrate a book launch was held.
Not only was it a celebration of the memoir but a way to raise funds for Blush Cancer Care, a not-for-profit organisation which provides education and support services for breast cancer patients.
Ms Nottle said she was so grateful for the support she received from the charity.
“To my great delight, Liz Wagner agreed to host the event in the garden of her beautiful home and with her support, the Book Launch by Stacy Nottle and Brunch event was a stunning success,” she said.
“All 150 tickets sold out on Eventbrite more than a month before the event.”
Funds were raised through ticket sales, an art auction, raffle and donations.
Ms Nottle said all guests came with an open heart.
“I am overwhelmingly grateful to the many businesses, artists and other individuals who donated their products, services and time with such open-hearted generosity,” she said.
“The Toowoomba community, I think, is unique in this way and I’m sure many of the out-of-towners who attended the event could not quite believe it.”
Ms Nottle’s book is already a success with anyone interested able to get a copy from The Book Tree in Ruthven St and other bookstore such as the Book Depositry, Amazon or direct from her website.
Ms Nottle said her book was raw, honest, a bit embarrassing and funny.
“This book tackles many of those topics that make us vulnerable as women such as friendship, loss and grief, self-doubt, femininity and coping with the internal dialogue inside our heads,” she said.
“My narrative is supported by an amazing collection of quotes and anecdotes that will encourage others to reflect on and explore their own stories.
“Initially, I wrote Breastless for myself, as therapy, but little snippets began to trickle out to other people and their reactions were always incredibly positive.
“By taking down my mask and allowing others to see the real me, I realised I was giving them permission and a safe place to share their own stories.
“I know of several people who have already begun to write their own stories since they read Breastless.”
