A quirky cast of characters could be seen on the Hobart’s waterfront today as diehard fans assembled for day two of the TasPop South cosplay festival. WERE YOU SNAPPED? >>

There were knights in shining armour, boys in maid dresses, and entire squads of superheroes at the Hobart waterfront as Tasmania’s cosplay festival entered full swing.

TasPop South is a gathering of Tasmania’s most diehard fans who don the costumes of their favourite characters from anime, gaming, and pop culture.

The event runs from Friday to Sunday at the Princes Wharf 01, with the major event being the cosplay competition on Sunday morning.

TasPop president Cammie Mile turned up for the first day as Taako, a taco-obsessed wizard from the Adventure Zone podcast.

Ms Mile said the calibre of cosplay she’d seen so far had been top notch, and she couldn’t wait to see the Sunday’s offerings.

“Everyone pulls out all the stops. A lot of the outfits have been handmade by people in the community, and their dedication is something else,” Ms Mile said.

“It’s been super nice to see a heap of familiar faces as well as a bunch of new, younger people coming down for the first time.”

The theme of this year’s cosplay festival is “Retro”, hearkening back to old-school video games, anime, and shows which evoke a feeling of nostalgia.

Throughout the event there will be quiz nights for trivia buffs seeking a “devious battle of wits”, karaoke events, auctions, and cosplay catwalks.

Gamers will pit their skills against each other in the console room and there will be a creator’s room for local artists to showcase their creative flair.
