POLICE have warned motorists they will be out in force across Toowoomba's school zones this week.
Sergeant Tony Rehn from the Crime Prevention Unit said motorists should also be aware not all school zones operate only for a short amount of time in the morning and afternoon.
"We have a couple that are all day," Sgt Rehn said.
"There is an all-day zone at the Glennie School and one on Stephen St at Harristown."
The speed limit in school zones is 40km/h.
Sgt Rehn said police would also be paying close attention to school crossings.
"What we are also asking people to pay attention to is where lollipop people are at school crossings," he said.
"When you pull up at a school crossing, if the flags are out you have got to be doing 40km/h. If the lollipop person is there you must obey their sign.
"You cannot enter the crossing until everyone is off it. Do not go into that intersection until such a time that everybody is off it."
According to the RACQ in 2017, 78.6 per cent of drivers admitted to pushing the speed limit in school zones because they were in a rush to get to their destination, a 10 per cent increase from 2016.
Most school zones operate from 7-9am and 2-4pm, unless signs state otherwise.
