27-year-old man charged over alleged stabbing near Darwin Woolworths carpark

Police have arrested a man at Ludmilla six days after a 27-year-old was allegedly stabbed in the head near a popular supermarket.

UPDATE JAN 3: A young man has been arrested following a six-day search after a Territorian was allegedly stabbed in the head near a Darwin supermarket.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad arrested the 27-year-old man at a Ludmilla home on Wednesday, and he was charged with unlawfully causing serious harm.

It is alleged he was involved in the stabbing of another 27-year-old on December 28, near the corner of Smith and Whitfield Streets.

The victim was allegedly left with a suspected stab wound to his head following a fight near the Darwin Memorial Uniting Church and the Woolworths carpark.

The injured man was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 27-year-old man who allegedly attacked him was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday.

INITIAL DEC 29: Police are investigating after a young man was allegedly stabbed in the head near the Darwin Woolworths carpark.

Northern Territory Police Serious Crime Detectives alleged that a 27-year-old man was left with a suspected stab wound to his head following a fight with another Indigenous man, just before 7.30pm Thursday.

The incident occurred near the corner of Smith and Whitfield Streets, near the Darwin Memorial Uniting Church and the Woolworths carpark.

The young man was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police did not confirm if any arrests had occurred, with the attacker still at large.

Investigators are calling on anyone with information to contact police, quoting the job number NTP2300012686.

It comes four months after a 36-year-old Wadeye man was allegedly fatally stabbed near the same Woolworths, with a memorial still standing where he passed away on Cavenagh st in September.

Police call for witnesses into alleged glassing, robbery in Jingili

Police are calling for witnesses following an alleged glassing and robbery earlier this month.

On December 12 between 9pm and 9.15pm near the Jingili Puma, a man was approached by two unknown males who allegedly assaulted him with a glass bottle.

Police allege the victim was knocked unconscious and his wallet stolen.

The victim was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital with serious injuries.

Police released photographs of two individuals they believe can assist with their investigation into the incident and urge anyone with information to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2300006716.

Man on the run after alleged aggravated robbery

NT Police are searching for an alleged thief after he threatened someone with a knife and fled with their belongings.

An NT Police spokesman said the alleged offender was “an Indigenous male, riding a push bike and wearing a long-sleeved fishing shirt with a distinctive green fish on the front”.

The spokesman said the alleged aggravated robbery happened about 5am Saturday near Baldwin Dr and Harrison Cct, Woodroffe.

He said the alleged offender fled towards Temple Tce with the victim’s stolen items.

The spokesman urged anyone with information – including motorists with any relevant dashcam footage – to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2300010784.

He said information could also be given anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
