A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl known to him multiple times has been arrested and charged.
The incident allegedly took place on a walking path adjacent to the Stuart Highway between 9pm Friday and 2am Saturday.
The 25-year-old offender was arrested at an address in Katherine East on Saturday by detectives from Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch and general duties officers.
He has since been charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, one count of act of gross indecency without consent, and one count of deprivation of liberty.
He was remanded to appear in Katherine Local Court on Monday.
Investigators have identified several witnesses via CCTV that may be able to assist them with their enquiries and urge anyone with information, or who has dashcam footage in the area to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2500050958.
