A HARRISTOWN man, 20, was slashed in the face with a knife after trying to stop a car being stolen from his property early this morning.

A 16-year-old resident at the Drayton Rd home woke the 20-year-old after hearing a car being started in the backyard.

The man went to investigate and witnessed the car smash into a fence and trees in the backyard of the property, attempting to leave the home.

Police said the man managed to get hold of the driver of the car and drag him from the vehicle, when he was kicked in the face by another offender.

Police will allege the driver of the car, a 20-year-old male from New South Wales, then pulled a knife on the resident, cutting him in the face.

The pair then fled the property in the stolen vehicle which was found in a nearby Harristown street.

Investigating police later intercepted a vehicle in Toowoomba where they allegedly found property belonging to the 20-year-old Harristown man, and a NSW man was taken into custody.

He was charged with robbery with violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.

He is due to appear in court on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Harristown man injured in the scuffle was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment of non-serious injuries.

He was released from hospital soon after.

Investigations are continuing in an effort to locate the second man involved in the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
