TOOWOOMBA and Surat Basin Enterprise has revealed it has held talks with winning Toowoomba Second Range Crossing consortia Nexus.

CEO Shane Charles said Nexus had presented to the TSBE board in November last year when more than 200 businesses put forward their case for involvement during construction.

"We have spoken with them this morning and they are delighted to have been chosen," Mr Charles said.

"They have assured TSBE they will work closely with us and give 110% effort to make sure local capable contractors are given every opportunity to win work."

Mr Charles said TSBE had worked closely with each of the three leading consortia.

Mr Charles welcomed the earlier announcement of the preferred tenderer for the major project.

"We've been talking with the minister about making an early announcement and are glad it has been brought forward from August," he said.

"The economy has been hurting and this is another boost for the Toowoomba region.

"We now say we are the capital of infrastructure in the country because of the size of the project and we know that infrastructure brings prosperity."
