EVERYONE knows Toowoomba residents love their chicken.
Chicken wings? Yes please. Chicken burger? Sure thing. Schnitzel? Of course.
A 1kg six-stack chicken schnitzel tower topped with Napoli sauce, ham and cheese, served with four sides? Well, this one isn't for the faint-hearted.
The Schnitzelmeister is The Bavarian's latest food challenge; and perhaps the hardest part about it is having to finish the entire meal within the hour.
The Schnitzelmeister is enough to feed a small family, but if you are someone who watches Man vs Food, and thinks "I could do that" then this challenge is for you.
It will set you back $80, but if you can complete it within 60 minutes the meal is free.
Matt Bryant was the first person in Toowoomba to take on the challenge on Tuesday night, and after eating a 1kg schnitzel in the past he was hopeful he'd finish.
However 51 minutes into the challenge, after a solid effort he had to give up.
Mr Bryant ate five of the six schnitzels and made a dent in his sides, which consisted of sauerkraut, red cabbage, mushy peas and mashed potatoes.
He prepared during the day by only eating small meals, and just choosing to have water while attempting the challenge.
"The hardest part I found is that because I was eating so much of the same thing my body felt like it began to reject it, and it was becoming harder and harder to chew," he said.
"The sides are the killer. I started to attack them first but that didn't go too well for me.
"I'd say to people who either love food challenges or just enjoy a good schnitzel to give it a go. It was delicious, they make the best schnitzels but I feel like I won't need to eat for a few days."
Loaded schnitzels
The Schnitzelmeister is part of The Bavarian's new loaded schnitzel range.
The German restaurant, at Grand Central Shopping Centre, is known for its golden-crumbed chicken schnitzels.
The new range creates quirky fusions of some of the world's favourite dishes and flavour combinations.
There is The Italian which is topped with Napoli sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, cherry tomatoes, olives and basil.
The Meatball is for those who love their chicken but also feel like a pasta dish, boasting spaghetti, meatballs in Napoli sauce, parmesan and basil.
The Texan is supersized with fries, mozzarella, smoked bacon, jalapeños, sweet barbecue sauce and ranch dressing.
If you can't decide whether to have a schnitzel and a salad you can have both with The Caesar, which is piled with lettuce, smoked bacon, parmesan, Caesar dressing, pretzel croutons and a slow-cooked egg.
The last of these schnitzels is The Mexican, which is back by popular demand, and features corn chips, chilli con carne, Jack cheese, guacamole and sour cream.
General manager Brent Martin said while they had only just launched he believed they would be popular with Toowoomba residents.
"Toowoomba loves our schnitzels and the new loaded ones are massive," he said.
"My chef cooks the schnitzels fresh every day. There are so many toppings and that's what you want; good food quality and walk away with a full belly, feeling satisfied.
"I have tried them all, and I really love the Caesar it's the perfect combination and the Italian taste exactly like a supreme pizza. They're all amazing."
The loaded schnitzels are $30.
To celebrate the latest schnitzel shenanigans, a prize of $2000 is up for grabs at The Bavarian.
To enter guests must purchase a loaded schnitzel and either a 500ml, or 1-litre stein of beer.
Winners will be drawn on Sunday, March 31.
