Jonathan Wesley on multiple charges following lengthy Nightcliff Gardenia Street Siege

The family of the man behind a 27-hour siege in Nightcliff called out to the 30-year-old as he was taken into the cells.

Jonathan Wesley arrested after 27-hour siege

The man at the centre of a 27-hour siege in Darwin’s suburbia called out to his family as he was pulled back into the cell by guards.

“Love youse,” Jonathan Earnest Wesley called out to the six loved ones waiting at Darwin Local Court on Wednesday.

“Love you too brother — take it easy,” a woman replied.

It was a brief two-minute court hearing with no applications for bail — in stark contrast to the alleged protracted siege in the Nightcliff home on Gardenia St on Monday and Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was charged with contravening a domestic violence order, trespassing, aggravated assault, making threats to kill, assaulting police and depriving a person of their liberty.

His lawyer Jack Lumsden indicated Wesley would be contesting the charges by asking for a directions hearing for September 25.

His mother Dianne Hewitt was among his supporters in the court, just a day after his dramatic arrest outside her Nightcliff property.

Police have alleged Wesley threatened to kill officers and was tasered before he was taken into custody without injury at 1.15pm on Tuesday, almost 27 hours after police first arrived to speak to him.

Police arrived at the home to question Wesley over the alleged assault of a woman on Sunday.

It was alleged his attack meant she was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

Detectives from the Domestic and Family Violence Unit are continuing to investigate the alleged assault of the woman.
