GRAND Central's dining precinct will become the home of six interactive illuminated jellyfish next week, as the art installation comes to town.

Grand Central marketing manager Marieke Bridgeman said the installation, The Jellyfish Bloom, would be in-centre from Thursday, February 7 until Saturday, February 23.

"These gorgeous illuminated jellyfish will be in three locations in the centre - near Chong Co and Max Brenner on Ground Level, Rozzi's on Level 1, and outside The Bavarian on Level 2," she said.

The school of towering jellyfish are sure to stop shoppers in their tracks, with their mesmerising illuminations and otherworldly appearance.

Each jellyfish stands at four metres tall and is embedded with a total of 3600 multi-coloured LED lights that flash when sensing human movement.

Grand central is hosting a glowing launch party for the feature next Thursday from 6pm in Central Square. Shoppers are welcome to attend.

The Jellyfish Bloom was designed by public art specialists Ample Projects, who were inspired by the bioluminescence of real-world jellyfish.

When you visit Grand Central's dining precinct during February, you could also be in with a chance to win a family weekend at Sea World on the Gold Coast.

Spend $30 or more in one of the centre's restaurants during The Jellyfish Bloom for your chance to win.
