A remote NT school has opened a new computer lab for students as efforts continue to teach NT kids about digital literacy and safety.

Principal Amy Tambling said the new equipment would put students on the path to success thanks to the generous Yadha Muru Foundation’s City Country Partnership Project.

The partnership provided funding for the new equipment, while the building refurbishments were completed as partner of a longer term project.

Ms Tambling said the school’s Transition to Year 9 classes would be able to access the new desktop computers and students in Years 10, 11, and 12 would be given laptops.

She said the laptops were purchased thanks to a donation from Victoria’s Caulfield Grammar School – a partner of JAS.

“In today’s digital age, ICT skills are essential across nearly all professions – the job application process itself demands a strong foundation in these skills, underscoring ICT’s critical role in career readiness,” Ms Tambling said.

“To prepare students for the future, it is imperative that they are provided with frequent opportunities to develop their ICT capabilities.

“At JAS, senior secondary students are required to engage in online learning through the Northern Territory School of Distance Education.

“By enhancing ICT education, we can better prepare our students to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world, ultimately improving their ability to access and participate in a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom.”
