UPDATE: The heaviest amount of rain has fallen in a Darling Downs town overnight.
The Bureau of Meteorology reported there was isolated heavy falls with storms overnight across much of the state.
The highest amount of rain fell at Victoria Hill, near Pittsworth with 94mm.
The bureau said there would be further heavy rain possible today with severe storms over central and south east Queensland.
8AM: Toowoomba is in for a warmer day after a late night storm over the city.
A line of showers and storms moving east hit Toowoomba just after 10pm bringing some rain to the city, but was weaker than predicted by meteorologists.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the likelihood of storms forecast to hit Toowoomba today has eased.
The BoM says there's a 30 per cent chance of rain with a possible early shower clearing in the afternoon.
That likelihood increases tomorrow with a 90 per cent chance of showers and a possible storm.
EARLIER: A severe thunderstorm could hit Toowoomba as early as tonight with rain already falling on parts of the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology said a line of showers and storms was moving east across the region, likely to bring winds and rain tipped to linger until the middle of next week.
Forecaster Lauren Murphy said there was a chance of severe thunderstorms over Toowoomba tonight with gusty and damaging winds.
No warning, however, had been activated, she said.
"There's a line of active showers and storms through the southern inland stretching from Roma to Goondiwindi," she said.
"There's a few light showers around the Toowoomba region now (but) the main action is a bit further west.
"We're expecting the line of showers and storms to track east-ward this evening so a few showers and a chance of a storm, most likely later tonight."
If a thunderstorm does hit tonight, Ms Murphy said Toowoomba could see falls upwards of 50mm.
The chance of storms and more rain increases tomorrow with the BoM forecasting a slightly warmer morning before temperatures drop off in the afternoon to evening.
"Tomorrow (we're) expecting a high chance of showers most likely in the morning into the afternoon," Ms Murphy said.
"There's a chance of a storm and risk of heavy falls with the thunderstorms on Sunday into Monday."
Rainfall totals from the thunderstorms could reach 80mm, she said, with Monday expected to be a wet day as showers bring falls of about 10mm to 30mm.
Ms Murphy said the showers were likely to be "hit and miss" in the region.
Temperatures will be "pretty close to average" on Sunday with the afternoon and evening reaching about 19 degrees before "dropping considerably" on Monday.
"The good news is the middle of next week is expected to be much drier air coming through the region," she said, adding it would return to sunny conditions by about Wednesday.
