How mum’s new venture is making environmental impact

Inspired by her son’s favourite treat and passion to protect the environment, here’s how one mum from Toowoomba is making a difference.

QLD expands single use plastics ban

Sitting in a cafe and enjoying a babyccino has just become a lot sweeter for little ones, thanks to the brainchild of an environmentally-conscious Toowoomba mum.

Elzanne Lategan, 31, loves nothing more than grabbing a coffee for herself and a babyccino, a child-friendly alternative made on frothed milk, for her son.

The mum-of-one said she began to feel guilty about the single-use coffee cups her son’s beverage arrived in and decided to take matters into her own hands.

Now Ms Lategan is set to launch her business BBcino, which specialises in biodegradable keep cups and silicone straws for little ones to enjoy their milk-based treats.

Inspired by her son Hennie Willi's favourite treat and with a passion to protect the environment, Elzanne Lategan has started new business BBcino.

“We’re very passionate about looking after the environment, and I know a lot of mums who want to instil and teach their babies those values,” she said.

“The purpose of this is to really make a difference … it takes one to two years for our keep cups to break down but 30 for the disposable cups.”

Working alongside graphic designers, Ms Lategan created a range of six sweet designs which will be available to purchase in the coming weeks.

Customers will be able to purchase them from the Burrow cafe in East Toowoomba or via the website bbcino.com.au.
