Three mates having a yarn over a couple of beers has snowballed into $10k being hidden in Townsville, with the latest hint for its location being given to the Bulletin.

PUFT Events Townsville are encouraging treasure hunters to peruse the town’s green spaces to find a golden toy truck, with the discoverer winning $10k.

102.3 Triple M Townsville radio host and PUFT Events owner Cliff ‘CK’ Kern said this competition – sponsored by Reef Recycling – is a great way to alleviate some financial pressures to the lucky treasure hunter.

“We pitched [Reef Recycling] the idea of just giving away cash, since cost of living out there and just being alive in 2025 is so expensive,” CK said.

“During that first year, everyone was like, ‘is this a scam? What’s going on here?’”

“It was just kind of a silly idea me and the boys had over a couple of beers, just trying to get families out.”

The golden food truck will have a QR code and phone number confirming to PUFT events that the person has found it.

CK gave the Bulletin the second hint for the golden truck’s hidden location:‘1968’.

This follows the first clue from April 1 which was simply: ‘Home Sweet Home’.

During its first year, the golden truck was found in Idalia while the second truck was discovered in the World War Two forts at the very end of Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park.

CK said a lot of time was spent choosing the hiding place for this year since residents found previous years’ trucks in with no time to spare.

“Last year, it got found literally within the first month”

“I’ve done a lot of reconnaissance to many locations around the city again.”

“I’ve lived here my whole life, and I get the chance to explore Townsville and look at it through a different lens.”

“My kids absolutely love it because we’re hitting up so many random locations.”

“But it was definitely anxiety-inducing hiding this thing.”

A new clue will be given on the first of every month, with bonus clues possibly given at PUFT-coordinated events.
