A police spokesman said traffic controllers were monitoring the scene.

"They are only stopping it intermittently while they (electrical linesmen) move things," the spokesman said.

EARLIER: Warrego Hwy east of Toowoomba at the Murphys Creek turn-off has been shut in both directions due to powerlines being down over the road.

It was reported that a truck involved in roadworks in the area had brought the powerlines down about 11.10am.
