IT'S A wonderful time to live in south-east Queensland.
Why?
Because of the food.
Well, that's what Australian celebrity chef Alastair McLeod thinks.
He was in Toowoomba today, popping into Little Seed Restaurant, Kajoku - Korean and Japanese Cuisine and Zev's Bistro, filming a segment for Channel 7's program The Great Day Out to promote the region and the upcoming Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.
"The whole food conversation has started to mature beautifully so we're up here to shine the spotlight on it," he said.
"The spotlight is increasingly on the producers, the farmers, the fishers, the growers and you realise certainly as a cook that you can't polish a turd - in other words, no matter how good your cooking techniques are, if you don't have good ingredients, you can't make good food.
"I think it that it's a wonderful thing that there's a greater empathy for where our produce comes from.
"I find when I'm doing cooking demos rather than people going 'How did you cook that?' it's 'Where did you get that ingredient from'."
The segment will be screened on the September 10 episode of The Great Day Out on Channel 7 at 5.30pm.
Another Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2017 themed episode will be screened on August 27.
