TO CRAFT a champion garden takes hard work, dedication, and more than a pinch of creativity.
But all the dirt under their fingernails was worth it for Cheryl and Kelly Fry who won the Grand Champion trophy in The Chronicle Garden Competition for 2013.
The couple's Dallang Road garden beat dozens of other entries to win the top prize in one of Australia's most prestigious gardening competitions.
The garden is full of splashes of colour, and despite a dry stretch over winter, the Frys managed to deliver an expanse of green lawn and lush garden beds.
A number of quiet, shady spots within the garden provide the perfect place to sit back and relax.
Judge Lawrie Smith said the couple had come up against some stiff competition this year, with strong showings throughout the city.
"Basically without exception, everywhere we've been , there's been excellent quality in design and horticulture.
"It's a great opportunity to judge here - it's the pinnacle of it all."
