An alleged juvenile joy ride in a stolen high-powered luxury car across the Gold Coast has resulted in a frightening close call – the vehicle colliding with another car in peak hour motorway traffic.
The performance BMW X6 SUV was reported stolen from a Coomera address early on August 27, according to a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman.
It’s alleged the vehicle was seen driving dangerously across the Coast in the following hours.
“At around 2.40pm, the vehicle was reportedly involved in a traffic crash,” a QPS spokesman said in a statement.
“It struck a BMW 328I along the Pacific Motorway at Coomera. The vehicle then continued driving for a period of time.”
The stolen car was found abandoned a short time later on Anaheim Drive at Helensvale. Police alleged two people were seen running from the vehicle.
Several officers began patrolling the area, including the nearby Homeworld shopping complex, but were unable to locate any offenders.
Following inquiries police have charged a 15-year-old boy from Macleay Island, northeast of Brisbane, with unlawful use of motor vehicles. He’s due to appear in Southport Children’s Court on December 12.
A 14-year-old Coomera boy was also charged with unlawful use of motor vehicles. His pre-sentence custody was deemed as time served under his sentence.
