A section of a popular Gold Coast walking track has been temporarily closed due to the filming of a major production featuring Hollywood stars.
Supervising locations manager for Sony Pictures, Nick Smith, sent a letter to Springbrook and Purling Brook Falls residents alerting them of a temporary closure from Monday to Wednesday.
The temporary track closure was to clear the area for filming “exterior scenes for a feature film at the top of Purling Brook Falls” on Wednesday.
It was understood the film was the major production, Anaconda, starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black.
The take on the 1997 cult classic Anaconda, featuring Jennifer Lopez, Job Voight and Owen Wilson, was said to inject $40 million into the local economy.
The letter sent to residents advised that the closures would include the entire eastern section of the walking track circuit from the John Stacey suspension bridge at the bottom of the waterfall to the upper pedestrian causeway at the top of the waterfall, including the eastern lookout viewing platform.
It will also include the entire Settlement Day Use Area, including access to Purling Brook Falls.
They advised the Gwongorella picnic area remains open for picnicking and barbecues and the main lookout west of Purling Brook falls will be open.
“We apologise for the late notice and for any upcoming inconvenience this may affect your business operations,” Mr Smith said.
“Thank you for your support, understanding and co-operation. It is greatly appreciated.
“The location Film and Television Industry relies on the support of the community whenever we film on location.”
