Premier Steven Miles has vowed to do “whatever it takes” to stamp out CFMEU-linked violence and intimidation amid allegations of an off-site assault.

This includes urgent laws, to be ready within weeks, to ensure the Queensland branch of the CFMEU is put into administration.

It can be revealed a Cross River Rail worker embroiled in a brawl after attempting to break through a CFMEU picket line was allegedly assaulted outside his home in a separate incident.

The Courier Mail does not suggest any of the individuals involved in the brawl were involved in the alleged assault.

The incident allegedly took place about 5am on Wednesday at Logan Reserve.

It’s understood the man was getting ready to leave for work when he was approached by two men who were armed with weapons.

The man who was allegedly assaulted was one of two non-union construction workers involved in a violent brawl outside the Dutton Park Cross River Rail site in May.

New footage of the violent brawl emerged on Wednesday, sparking renewed attention on the militant union’s methods. No-one was charged as a result of the incident.

Queensland Police confirmed they were investigating the alleged incident at Logan Reserve, but no charges or arrests had been made.

“I became aware yesterday of allegations of a violent assault upon a construction worker,” Mr Miles said.

“That allegation has now been referred to police. I’ve spoken to the police commissioner who has assured me that it is being investigated and is being taken incredibly seriously.”

Mr Miles said in light of what had happened he had also spoken with newly appointed federal industrial relations Minister Murray Watt.

He also held a meeting with the state’s industrial relations minister Grace Grace.

“We are working on what steps are necessary to apply that administration to the Queensland branch of the CFMEU,” Mr Miles said.

“We are determined to take what steps are necessary at a state level to stamp out this violence and intimidation because it is not acceptable.”

Mr Miles said this will likely involve “urgent legislation to appoint an administrator to the Queensland registered entity”.

“We will do whatever is necessary to get that in place and to have it in place as quickly as possible after the Australian parliament passes their legislation,” he said.

Police on Thursday afternoon confirmed they are investigating the alleged assault of a 36-year-old man at Logan Reserve on Wednesday.

CFMEU Queensland secretary Michael Ravbar rejected the “outrageous” suggestion the CFMEU was linked to an alleged assault on a Cross River Rail worker off-site at Logan Reserve on July 31.

“The CFMEU had no knowledge of, or involvement in, the alleged assault,” he said.

“We trust the police will examine all lines of inquiry, and we are confident the investigation will show the CFMEU was not involved in the alleged incident.”

The next door neighbour who did not want to provide their name said there was a brawl on the corner of Tulloch st and Randwick avenue.

It’s understood it happened around 5am on Wednesday.

Another neighbour said she sees him coming and going and that he works for cross river rail but did not see the assault.

A security guard has since been hired to watch other the house.
