A woman is fighting for life in hospital on the Gold Coast after she was allegedly stabbed in her home.

Emergency services were called to a private residence at Upper Coomera just before 9pm on Wednesday where the woman aged in her 60s was found with significant life-threatening stab wounds.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said four paramedic crews treated the woman before she was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital where her condition had stabilised by Thursday afternoon.

According to police sources, a crime scene was established.

In a statement a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said: “As this was a domestic violence (DV) related incident, police won’t be sharing any additional details on this investigation.”

The QPS has regularly released information on DV incidents in the past including on Saturday when 34-year-old Destiny Otton-Rakuraku was allegedly set on fire by a 36-year-old man at Kingston, near Logan. The man was arrested by police and charged with attempted murder.

Speaking on the alleged Upper Coomera stabbing on Thursday, Police Minister Dan Purdie described it as a “shocking” incident and reiterated the urgent need for reform.

“All solutions to domestic violence are on the table,” Minister Purdie said.

“I chaired a DV roundtable yesterday with key experts from across the state, particularly police services, to hear from them.

“We need to make sure that the courts have got the power, but our police have the laws, the policy and procedures they need to keep vulnerable people safe.”
