Gold Coast police called to home on Teal Ave in Paradise Point after shots fired
Seven bullets have peppered an upmarket Gold Coast home in what police confirm was a targeted drive-by attack, with a burnt-out car found nearby.
The drive-by shooting of a house in upmarket Paradise Point was a targeted attack, police have revealed.
A crime scene has been declared after a Gold Coast home was peppered with seven bullets on Tuesday morning.
Footage obtained by police at the scene shows the gunfire came from a single car driving past.
Gold Coast police were called to the home on Paradise Point’s Teal Avenue after reports of gunshots at 3.20am.
Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said two shots had penetrated the lower level of the house, while another punctured the fence.
The home’s occupants were asleep on its upper level at the time and nobody was injured.
Det Insp Mooney said the victims were cooperating with police but he was unable to comment on what the motive of the attack was, or the calibre of weapon used.
“This was a targeted attack and the community is not at risk,” he said.
“We don’t have a lot of drive-by shootings thankfully and any sort of firearm-related incident we take extremely seriously.
“Obviously (the home’s occupants) are aware of the incident and the reasons behind it occurring and obviously their safety is our concern, as well as their own, and they have taken steps to ensure their own safety.
“We have footage of the incident, but the footage is not great, so we will make inquiries into that.”
Police are investigating whether a car fire on Helensvale Rd in Hope Island just 13 minutes later was linked to the Paradise Point crime scene.
Det Insp Mooney said the car, a hatchback, was too badly damaged to determine the make or model of it, or where it had originated from.
“At this point in time we can’t say if it’s the same vehicle (used in the shooting), we reasonably suspect it may be unrelated but at this point in time we haven’t ruled that out.
“The vehicle was extremely destroyed so we are unable to find a VIN number of anything like that to determine where it came from.”
Officers are urging anyone with any information about either incident or anyone who has dashcam to call 131 444.
