On a bleak day for Newtown & Chillwell, the intercept king of the GFNL stood tall once again.

Eagles defender Braden Hocking was the top-ranked performer of the round according to Premier Data with 171 ranking points in their loss to St Albans.

Hocking won the ball back at will, racking up 27 disposals, 18 intercepts, 14 marks — six of those contested — and seven intercept marks.

Charlie Harris (30 disposals, 10 marks, two goals and 125 points) and Ned Harris (29 disposals, 15 contested possessions, seven clearances and 122 points) both had an influence for the Eagles as Sam Donegan tallied a game-high 38 disposals, 14 contested possessions, seven clearances and 118 points for St Albans.

Former Essendon and GWS talent Devon Smith wasn’t far behind Hocking after another dominant performance in Lara’s loss to Grovedale with 30 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 12 tackles, 12 clearances and 167 points

Another ex-AFL player Ryan Abbott won the ruck battle for Grovedale with 41 hitouts, 17 touches, 14 contested possessions, five contested marks, a goal and 145 points and helped give Will Jeffery (35 disposals, 14 contested possessions, eight clearances, a goal and 152 points) first use.

Lara midfielders Bayley Cockerill (27 disposals, 14 contested possessions, 11 tackles, nine clearances and 144 points) and Connor Thar (25 disposals, 13 contested possessions, eight clearances and 125) also had productive afternoons despite the result.

St Joseph’s midfielder Liam Betson owned the coalface for the Joeys in their win over South Barwon, collecting 22 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 15 clearances and 161 points.

There were plenty of big ball-winners in Bell Park’s win over North Shore and Bell Park captain Lachie Patten led the way with 36 disposals, 15 contested possessions, nine clearances, a goal and 159 points.

He forming a formidable combination with Ben Worme (35 disposals, six inside 50s, a goal and 141 points) and Darcy Brown (39 hitouts, 17 disposals, 12 contested possessions, a goal and 135 points).

Meanwhile. James Chadwick (31 disposals, 18 contested possessions, nine marks, a goal and 158 points), Lachlan Hayes (35 disposals, 14 marks, nine rebound 50s and 153 points) and Bradlee Tregenza (26 disposals, 14 contested possessions, nine clearances, two goals and 131 points) all stood out for North Shore.

Leopold star Logan Wagener produced another strong performance with 32 disposals, 17 contested possessions and 146 points in their thrilling win over Colac as Brock Williamson (29 disposals, 22 contested possessions, nine clearances, a goal and 138 points) also had a major say on the contest.

It was an even contribution from St Mary’s in its victory over Geelong West with Zak Sherman (27 disposals, 10 marks, a goal and 139 points) and Harry Benson (32 disposals, 20 contested possessions, 10 clearances, six tackles, a goal and 134 points).

Prolific Geelong West midfielder Tanner Lovell was his side’s top ranked performer with Tanner Lovell 29 disposals, 18 contested possessions, nine clearances, two goals and 136 points.
