Anglesea playing coach Jordan Keras signs two-year extension

Anglesea’s playing coach has signed a two-year extension, and his brother-in-law Patrick Dangerfield may be in his sights in the future. He joked that the Cats champ might not just be playing.

Anglesea playing coach Jordan Keras said his number one goal is to end the Roos’ 25-year premiership drought after he signed a two-year extension with the club.

Anglesea confirmed on Tuesday that Keras would remain at the club until the end of 2026, conceding he was unlikely to have his brother-in-law, Geelong champion Patrick Dangerfield, back at the Roos in that time.

Keras has been a pivotal part of second-placed Anglesea’s rise this season, averaging 29.7 disposals, 17.5 contested possessions, 7.9 clearances, 5.5 tackles and 128.9 Premier Data ranking points.

The dominant midfielder leads the Bellarine for centre clearances, ranks second for contested possessions, fifth for disposals and is the sixth-ranked player in the competition according to Premier Data.

His new deal comes after another monumental outing in the Roos’ win over Portarlington, where he amassed 39 disposals, 22 contested possessions, 14 score involvements, eight clearances, a goal and 159 points.

Keras is set to continue in the demanding playing coach for the next two seasons where he hopes to lead his side to an elusive flag.

“(Two years) was the commitment that Anglesea were after when we inititally started our discussions and like any club, success starts with stability, and I think there was a mutual feeling there from the club and me and decided to go with two instead of one,” Keras said.

“It is a bloody hard job and it is a hard industry and it can change in a matter of weeks in a season let alone a year.

“We obviously have our eyes focused on it this year and really keen to try and break that down this year. It has always been my main focus, as well as getting the boys to enjoy their time at Anglesea I am here to try and have our club win it, break that drought.

“We haven’t won one in 25 years so it would be great to win one and I’m confident that our group will be there abouts for the next couple of years.”

Keras doubts he will see Dangerfield, who remains out of contract at Geelong, back playing for his junior club Anglesea in the next two seasons.

“He is still playing some great footy at AFL level and one of the greatest to ever play it. I think if he wants two years, he will get it, without knowing too much about his contract,” Keras said.

“I imagine if he has his eyes set on a couple of years we won’t see him for a couple of years, but you never know after that.”

Dangerfield has joked about big offers coming his way from Anglesea, but Keras quipped it will be much more modest.

“Said to him he’ll play for free and the games he doesn’t play he’ll run water for us, so he will be a good inclusion on and off the field,” Keras joked.
