Terrifying footage shows a group of offenders wearing hoods and carrying large knives walk up an Ocean Grove driveway before they allegedly attempted to break in.

Police were called to a home on Dare St in the coastal town about 2.45am on Tuesday after reports of a suspicious group loitering.

Officers arrived at the scene moments later but were unable to find the trio.

“No access was gained to the property which was unoccupied at the time and nothing was stolen,” a police spokeswoman said.

Footage of the incident posted to an online community page shows at least three hooded figures walking up a driveway carrying what appear to be machetes.

The offenders can be seen wearing track suit pants, sock and slides.

Residents have been warned to keep their doors, windows and vehicles locked.

One local described the situation as “scary”.

“We’re not even safe to sleep in our own homes anymore,” they wrote.

“This ups the ante a bit (because) they are carrying weapons.”

It comes after the ‘Addy recently reported a 42 per cent spike in youth crime across Greater Geelong in the past year.

There were 1206 criminal offences committed by 10 to 17-year-olds across Greater Geelong in the 12 months to September 2024, according to the Crime Statistics Agency.

This is up by 42 per cent from 845 in the previous year.

Labor’s bail laws have been blamed for the staggering numbers however the state government has promised new laws would introduce “tougher consequences” for repeat offenders.
