A manhunt is still underway for a callous alleged hit-run driver who fled the scene of a sickening collision in Geelong that left a woman fighting for life, as shocking details emerged over the incident.

It’s understood the driver also abandoned two injured passengers in the car he was driving before he casually walked away from the scene on Barwarre Rd in Marshall.

His brazen disregard for human life has shocked residents, with the July 17 collision captured on nearby CCTV cameras.

Chilling footage shows the man strolling past witnesses and even greeting an onlooker as he fled.

Victoria Police Sergeant Megan Stefanec confirmed on Monday they are still attempting to locate the man and the investigation remained ongoing, with detectives calling on the public to assist with information.

Neighbours described his actions as inhumane as the search to unmask him intensified.

Several left their homes on Wednesday night to assist the injured, with a 44-year-old Armstrong Creek woman flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

“I figured he’s done a runner straightaway,” one woman told this masthead.

“Who does that?”

An RMH spokeswoman said the woman remained under care in a stable condition on Monday.

A 42-year-old Armstrong Creek woman, who was driving the hatch, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

On Thursday morning, the hospital confirmed she was in a serious condition.

Police allege the male driver of the Commodore abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving his injured passengers to fend for themselves.

The man has yet to be caught.

A nearby resident, who didn’t want to be named, said the crash “shook the house”.

The woman immediately went outside to see what had happened and was one of the first on scene.

She said the driver of the hatch was barely conscious.

“There were two (passengers) in the red car and one in the Mazda, so the driver had fled by that point,” she said.

Police confirmed that the Commodore passengers were a 34-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from Grovedale.

They were both taken to Geelong hospital and are in a stable condition.

“(The male passenger) was coming in and out of consciousness himself,” the resident said.

“I just needed to keep him awake to be honest, keep him talking.

“He just said ‘my chest, my chest.’

“The airbag had hit him really good in the chest.

“(The woman in the back seat) was conscious the whole time and talking to me.”

The resident said she noticed straight away that the driver’s seat was empty.

“I asked ‘where’s the driver?’ and thought maybe he was on the ground, but he was nowhere to be seen,” she said.

“I figured he’s done a runner straightaway, which is appalling.

“Leaving two friends in the car, possibly seriously injured, and just running away casually, who does that?

“It’s disgusting, appalling behaviour.”

She said she hoped the driver of the Mazda was OK.

“Who leaves someone in a critical condition like that and just prays that they’re going to be OK? Who does that?”

Another neighbour, who also asked to remain anonymous, said the driver of the Mazda was “lucid”.

“When she was lucid, she wanted to get out of the car and I had to tell her ‘stay here’,” she said.

“Then she just tanked, it was just terrible.

“When first responders got here, they were able to rip the door open.”

The front of both vehicles were completely crumpled due to the impact of the collision.

Pieces of the cars, including a cigarette lighter, could be seen strewn across the Barwarre Rd nature strip on Thursday morning.
