Police save three fishermen men off Barwon Heads after boat flips

Police say three men are lucky to have escaped uninjured following a terrifying boat flip that left them in the water for almost an hour with only one lifejacket. SEE THE VIDEO

Three men have been lucky to escape uninjured after their boat flipped off the Bellarine Peninsula on Friday evening.

The trio from Northcote set off for a day of fishing in the morning, launching their 5.5m fibreglass boat from the Ocean Grove boat ramp about 7am.

It wasn’t until about 7.20pm, when the men were attempting to return to shore, that their boat flipped over off Barwon Heads, throwing them into the water.

The trio only had one life jacket between them.

The skipper of the boat was able to contact a family member for help, who then contacted emergency services.

The police air wing were able to locate the men about 8pm, and were able to guide Life Saving Victoria volunteers to them.

The men, who video shows clinging onto their overturned boat, were then dramatically pulled out of the water into dinghy’s.

According to Victoria Police, the three men, a 37-year-old, a 41-year-old, and a 29-year-old, were lucky to escape the ordeal uninjured.

All three were taken to hospital for observation.

Water Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
