Paramedics were called to the Geelong Police station on Friday night following reports of a man who injured himself while in custody.

A spokeswoman from Victoria Police said the 24-year-old man of no fixed address was taken to hospital as a precaution, then returned to Geelong Police Station.

The man was in police custody after being charged with assault with a weapon and criminal damage.

“The charges relate to alleged assault incidents, where the parties are believed to be known to each other,” the spokeswoman said.

He will appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on July 15.

Ambulance Victoria said they were called to the station about 8:30pm Friday after a report of an incident.

“A man in his 20s was assessed at the scene and taken to University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition,” an ambulance spokesman said.
