A man has taken to hospital after a blaze broke out at a home in Bell Park, just three days out from Christmas Day.
Crews were called to a Furner Ave home about 11.15am on Friday after triple-0 callers reported seeing flames coming out of the property.
An Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) spokeswoman said neighbours attempted to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose.
“All residents evacuated and have been accounted for,” the spokeswoman said.
“(Paramedics were) requested to assess a male patient.”
The home was severely damaged in the blaze as well as a double garage, which was threatening to collapse.
“A neighbouring property has also sustained minor damage,” the spokeswoman said.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed one person was taken to Geelong hospital for treatment.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said she heard a “loud bang” then ran outside to see the smoke billowing from the house.
It is believed the fire started in the shed.
The neighbour believed an elderly couple lived in the house.
Crews were seen bringing out several bags of hazardous materials from the home, marked with “asbestos”.
As of 1.30pm, the road remained closed in both directions.
