A popular indoor soccer centre in Newtown will double its capacity if expansion plans lodged with Geelong council are given the tick of approval.

Kick Academy in Lambert Ave, which was established in 2021 and provides junior soccer training and futsal competitions, is hoping to keep up with demand by building a second indoor pitch.

The business plans to demolish an existing building next door to the current centre to build a new shed with FIFA standard soccer pitch.

Owner Marissa Krasic said the new pitch would give the academy the capacity to run two sessions or competitions at the same time, expand to more age groups and host events like Christmas parties.

“It will allow us to fulfil the demand that we have been faced with,” she said.

“Our sessions are full.

“Some people can be waiting between six and eights months to get into the more popular junior sessions.”

The second pitch could also give the academy capacity to host school groups, all-abilities games and senior games.

“There is so much more that we could be doing but we’ve reached capacity,” Mrs Krasic said.

“When we have that extra space, we can do the extra stuff that we really want to be doing.

“We’re really excited to be able to expand and do more.”

The business has applied for a liquor license at their cafe, Offside, which is located inside the original building.

“We get asked a lot about hosting events so it will be good to have that option and be able to host Christmas parties and other parities,” Mrs Krasic said.

She said the expansion would not have been possible without the “loyalty and support” of the community.

According to planning documents, the expansion is expected to cost $350,000.

The application is currently on public exhibition and no decision will be made by council before January 11.
