A storm has lashed the Geelong region, with the Bellarine Peninsula copping the brunt of the wild weather.

Menacing clouds rolled over Geelong and surrounds late on Friday afternoon, before the heavens opened up just after 5pm.

Residents reported rain, hail, thunder and lightning.

One resident said Inverleigh was hit hard, while another resident in Thomson posted a picture that showed water over the footpath.

The SES said it attended 15 jobs on the Bellarine throughout the day, six of them being water damage.

Vic Emergency showed five properties in Queenscliff had flooding as of 6pm.

Other residents further north said they either only received a brief shower, or missed out entirely.
