A man allegedly jumped into Corio Bay in an attempt to run away from police after he crashed a car into a tree with a six-year-old child inside.

A man allegedly jumped into Corio Bay in an attempt to flee from police after he crashed a car into a tree with a child inside.
Officers spotted a black Holden Commodore allegedly driving erratically on Gerbera Ave in Norlane about 10am on Wednesday.
Police lost sight of the vehicle for several minutes before finding it had crashed into a tree on The Esplanade in North Shore.
A 25-year-old man from Anglesea then allegedly fled the scene by jumping into Corio Bay.
He was then arrested when he swam to the shore.
Officers found a six-year-old child in the vehicle and they were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The man was charged with multiple offences including driving in a dangerous manner and careless driving.
He fronted the Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday where he was remanded in custody.
He will appear in court again on February 20.
