It’s an extra special Mother’s Day for Geelong’s Leah Grant, whose newborn twins are Barwon Health’s 1000th birth of the year.

“I only found out the other day when someone in special care came and told me,

“They came really early, they were born at 34 weeks so it was a bit of a rushed shock and to learn they were 1000 was a big surprise,” she said.

According to Barwon Health, a local baby boom has seen the region hit the milestone earlier than usual.

Asked which one came first, Ms Grant confirmed Isaac claimed the 1000th spot, born one minute before sister Maeve.

“I’m sure he’ll be holding that over her head for the rest of his life,” Ms Grant joked.

The new mum says her first Mother’s Day will be a quiet one at home, as she will no doubt have her hands full with her early arrivals.

“Isaac’s already keeping us on our toes and we say thank god for Maeve because she lets us know we are not doing a terrible job.

“Although the women in special care warned me that it will be the other way round when they are teenagers when Isaac is the perfect teen and Maeve is causing all the problems,” she said.
