THE property housing a major Australian bank's regional branch west of Toowoomba will go up for auction next month, nearly 20 years after it last changed hands.

Colliers International listed the NAB branch on Campbell St in Oakey on the market and will go under the hammer on September 10.

The freehold sale does not affect the running of the bank, which has been there since 1998 and will continue operations as the main tenant. NAB's current lease with options runs until 2031.

Colliers International agent Rebecca Steinmuller highlighted the benefits of the potential investment property in the online listing for the site.

"The bank fit out consists of an open plan teller area with customer foyer, two customer meeting rooms, strong room, stationery room, staff room/kitchenette and male and female amenities," the listing said.

"Oakey could be considered the gateway to the resource rich Surat Basin with coal mining operating in the surrounding area.

"Oakey is also home to significant defence infrastructure, two meat processing plants, a stock feed manufacturing plant and has its own gas power station delivering reliable power during periods of peak demand.

"The planned infrastructure projects and attractive property prices provide the perfect opportunity to establish a competitive business of any scale."

Ms Steinmuller was contacted for comment.

According to RP Data, the property was bought by a Toowoomba investor for $173,000 in 2000.

The auction will be held at the Land Rover Centre on Herries St in Toowoomba on September 10 from 5.30pm.
