SPRING Polo is a huge event on the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers calendar, and to help attendees get ready Grand Central has offered some styling tips.

The polo event is the perfect fit to the annual festival, offering something for all demographics and attracting people from all Queensland.

Grand Central marketing manager Marieke Bridgeman said when it came to selecting your outfit, for the ladies there was a chic, understated elegance required, and for the men - dashing and dapper was the way to go.

The polo is the perfect occasion for floaty full-length dresses and jumpsuits in playful prints. An all-white ensemble and pastels also never fail to delight.

If you prefer something a little more traditional, you can keep it classic and consider a pair of shorts paired with a jacket and flats.

For the men a tailored short with a blazer or sports jacket will look smart, and a chino and linen shirt will keep you comfortable all day.

The style rules also follow through to the younger members of the family.

Ms Bridgeman said if you decided to make this year's polo event a family affair, you could follow suit with the same style rules for your children.

"Our advice is to keep it classic and to have fun with some colour. As far as their shoes go, make sure that comfort is high on the priority list so their little feet last beyond the divot stomping," she said.

"Our digital runway is showcasing a range of polo ready looks, so it's a great place to start for inspiration."

This year the Spring Polo, held on Saturday, September 28, will feature two polo matches, field side champagne, live music and delicious food at Queens Park.

Ms Bridgeman said it was exciting that the centre was supporting the event for a third year.

"We're looking forward to providing Fashions on the Field prizes for not only the best dressed men and ladies, but with this year's spring polo being a family event, there's also a new children's fashion category," she said.

FASHION TIPS

1. No sinking violets

Leave stilettos at home, but wedges, block heels and platforms are acceptable. For the ultimate in all day comfort, a fabulous pair of flats will reign supreme.

2. Make your statement

Accessories are the perfect way to personalise your style. Layering necklaces in varying lengths is elegant, and if you prefer to create a bold statement, think oversized earrings or a statement necklace.

For then men nothing too formal but if you want to increase the dapper factor, consider a colourful pocket square for your blazer or sports coat.

3. Headwear

The number one rule is to save your fascinators for a race day, not the polo. If you are opting for a hat, make your selection from boater hats, wide brimmed sunhats, panamas and fedoras. Another option is a head scarf.
