Parts of the Gold Coast are once again underwater, as creeks and rivers break their banks and roads after a relentless deluge. UPDATES.

The Gold Coast barely had a chance to dry out after ex-tropical cyclone Alfred before it was once again inundated with rain.

Authorities issued warnings and roads closed across the region as water levels rose on Saturday.

As at 3.45pm on Saturday, the Gold Coast City Council reduced the immediate threat rating as the rain began to ease, though the warning level for the Currumbin Valley was still higher as the area continued to experience moderate flooding.

The Gold Coast City Council issued an emergency warning for the Currumbin Valley just before 11am on Saturday, as the creek rose to almost 2m above its usual level.

The status of the warning was “take action now,” and residents are urged to get to higher ground as it may be too late to leave safely.

According to the GCCC emergency dashboard, as at 2.30pm on Saturday multiple roads on the Gold Coast are closed due to flooding.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued an initial flood warning for the Nerang and Coomera river catchments as at 12.30pm on Saturday.

The warning said minor flooding was happening along the Coomera and Nerang rivers, as well as Mudgeeraba, Worongary, Tallebudgera and Currumbin creeks.

On Saturday morning, emergency services were called to reports of a car in water with two people inside at Tallebudgera Connection Rd at Tallebudgera.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire Department said the water was up to the wheel arches of the car.

The two occupants were ultimately able to get out of harm’s way without assistance, and did not need to be taken to hospital, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

Police are still investigating how the vehicle came to be in floodwater, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

Police are reminding drivers that if it’s flooded, forget it.
