A military firefighter has copped a fine and will not be allowed back on the roads for 10 months after he was busted for driving while more than four times the legal alcohol limit and crashing his car.
Henrique Augusto Junges appeared with his translator at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor.
Police intercepted the 32-year-old in Carrara at 3.30am on March 6 after the Brazilian national crashed his vehicle into bushes.
He returned a positive blood alcohol reading of 0.205 – more than four times the legal alcohol limit.
The court heard the Nerang man had been drinking at a friend’s house beforehand.
Magistrate Gary Finger told the court he took into account the fact Junges was attempting to find a safe place during Tropical Cyclone Alfred when he drove, and had no prior history of drink driving.
He added Junges had shown genuine remorse and was well thought of by his employer and people he associated with.
“What doesn’t go to your credit though, is driving more than four times the limit,” Mr Finger said.
Junges was fined $2000 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for 10 months.
