A MAN and woman accused of robbing a Toowoomba taxi driver at knife point which left the cabbie with stab wounds to his hands have had their respective cases mentioned before the city's Magistrates Court.
Dwayne Owen Wharton, 33, and Lilly-Anna Chapman, 27, have both been remanded in custody since their arrests and were not in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday when their respective cases were briefly mentioned.
The couple is accused of hailing a taxi from outside a licensed venue in Toowoomba's CBD late on October 20 after which they directed the driver to take them to an Anzac Ave address.
Police claim when the taxi stopped, a knife was pulled on the driver under demand of money and a struggle ensued in the front seat during which the driver allegedly sustained stabbed wounds to his hands.
It is also alleged the couple attempted to take a backpack which was on the floor of the vehicle during the struggle.
Police claim the couple fled the scene but was arrested later after police viewed the taxi's CCTV camera footage.
The 32-year-old taxi driver was treated for cuts to his hands at Toowoomba Hospital and released.
Wharton and Chapman have not as yet been required to enter any pleas to charges of robbery with actual violence while armed and in company and using personal violence.
The case will eventually have to go up to the District Court to be heard.
There being no application for bail, Magistrate Graham Lee remanded both accused in custody and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court next month.
